Authorised Push Payment Fraud, also known as APP fraud, or APP scams happens when fraudsters deceive their victims into sending payments under false pretences to a bank account controlled by the fraudster.
Money is often then transferred into a digital currency exchange to convert the funds into cryptocurrency, and then into a crypto wallet controlled by the fraudsters.
We can hold banks accountable for APP Fraud if your money passed through several payment providers, cryptocurrency exchanges or crypto wallets before reaching the scam – even if you authorised the initial transactions from your bank and your bank has already declined your claim for a refund.

How do you trace cryptocurrency transactions?
Our team brings together fraud, legal and financial crime experts with a range of backgrounds in criminal investigations and forensic computing and are skilled at conducting complex financial investigations.
Our analysts follow the digital footprint of transactions to identify the precise location of client funds in exchanges, wallets or bank accounts.
By conducting further investigations to prove the account(s) holding the funds are linked to criminal or fraudulent activity, our lawyers (or law enforcement) can issue freezing orders on the account(s) holding the stolen funds.
Once the accounts are frozen, actions can then be taken to recover the funds.
Why APP Fraud investigations are ideal in crypto recovery cases
Crypto recovery can be complex and finding legitimate crypto recovery companies can be difficult.
